My birthday fell three days after we got back from Europe and had to be postponed this year due to quite a few of us being sick, specifically my poor mum! She had planned on buying me a Longchamp backpack in London for my birthday but since she wasn’t able to get out shopping we decided we would get one when we were in Vancouver. Originally our plan was to celebrate my birthday over the weekend in Vancouver, see an exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery and go shopping. Sadly we had to push the date back to a weekend in March but I’m glad we did because we had gorgeous weather and a great weekend all around! We even brought the boys with us and squeezed in a Vancouver Canucks game too!
My mum and I managed to find a great price on a really nice hotel through Hotwire. We stayed at the Sheraton Wall Centre, great rooms and comfy beds, the perfect location for all of our downtown needs! The four of us found a cute little cafe for a spot of lunch before the boys went off on their own and my mum and I started our girls day, my belated birthday! There was a French Modern Masters exhibition on at the Vancouver Art Gallery and I got tickets online to avoid any lines. The exhibition was fantastic and had many of my favourites like Degas, Monet, Pisarro and many more. It was interesting to see how they had curated it from the early French Modernist painters like the Impressionists all the way to the Abstractionist artists. After we spent some time among the beautiful pieces we ventured upstairs to see the interactive pieces that were being displayed. Sadly I can’t remember the artist whose exhibition was on but my mum and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was fun to be a part of the art and touch or feel it, even move it in some instances.
After the art gallery was shopping time. I can’t go to Vancouver without visiting Topshop! I didn’t want to bore my mum too much though so we spent a short amount of time in my favourite store. I bought two utility style blouses, I am really enjoying the trend. I’ll share them on the blog soon! Next stop was Nordstrom to get my Longchamp backpack. My cousin Anna has had one for awhile now and I always admire it but while we were in London I noticed how many people were wearing them so I decided it was time! My mum didn’t know what to get me for my birthday so offered to buy me one of them which I was pretty happy about. I opted for the sort of camouflage or army green colour because I don’t have many things in that colour and I think it’s a really nice neutral with the brown straps of the bag. Needless to say I am obsessed. It fits everything so perfectly and I can’t wait to take it to Toronto and Charleston in less than 4 weeks!
After a very exhausting day of walking around the city we headed back to the hotel for a quick relax before heading out to an early dinner before the game. My mum and dad had tried this Indian restaurant a few years ago while in Vancouver and told us about it so we decided to go back. Copper Chimney is located in a little boutique hotel on Hornby Street and it did not disappoint! We had lots of items to share between the four of us and we all left happy with full bellies. Luckily there was a bit of a walk to the arena so we could digest. The Vancouver Canucks games are always fun to see live even if they do lose most of the time that we go. It didn’t matter though because it was the experience of being there and seeing some hockey live! After the game we left my parents to meet up with some of our friends in Yaletown and my parents headed home to bed.
The next morning we decided to head to Gastown to go to Purebread, one of my favourite bakeries in Vancouver and Whistler. There were so many yummy things to choose from and we all had a pastry and coffee. Then it was time to head to the ferry so we could get some things done on the Sunday before heading back to work on the Monday. It was a quick trip, just 24 hours in Vancouver, but it was well worth being exhausted from it. I love visiting the city, it just brings a little bit of life back into you and inspiration for me at least. I can’t wait for our next visit over, it probably won’t be until the summer but in the meantime we will be going to Toronto and Charleston, which I can’t wait for!
