Two weekends ago Dave and I made the long drive up to Tofino. We hadn’t been back since September, which I thought was outrageous. I missed our old home so much but with the winter weather and our holidays to Europe we couldn’t make it up before. I’m glad we waited though because we had the most perfect weekend. The weather was unbelievable! It barely rained at all and the sun shone on us most of our weekend. We arrived very late, due to traffic, an accident and stopping for dinner on the way up. The first night we stayed with friends in their suite and it was perfect. They have such a large space and they were so welcoming, it was a great base for us. The house is right on the water and the view is breath taking. You forget how amazing the views are there once you leave it but when we got back it was like we had never left. I had quite the booked itinerary for us because we were there for such a short amount of time, I wanted to do it all!
Our friends had to work on the Saturday but we planned to meet up for a drink and dinner that night. We started our day out with yoga at our old studio in Tofino, Coastal Bliss Yoga and it was perfect. I had not done yoga since the fall and I definitely realized how important it was for me to start again. My body and mind felt amazing afterwards and it was definitely what Dave and I both needed. Next stop were pastries from Summit Bakery and coffees from the Tofitian, both did not disappoint and I was so happy to be eating such delicious treats! Next stop was the beach of course! We walked North and South Chesterman, which was magical. Dave was going to surf but it wasn’t a good day for him to go so we just walked hand in hand along the beach, something we did almost every day when we lived there and never do here in Victoria. This is something we both decided has to change! We were hungry again and headed to Picnic Charcuterie to pick up some nibbly bits for lunch. Then it was time to visit all the shops in ‘downtown’ Tofino. I visited old friends and it was so nice to see how everyone was doing in town. Dave went on quite the shopping spree, however, I just bought presents for friends and family.
After a full day of activities we checked into The Shoreline and promptly fell asleep on the very comfy beds. When we woke up we got dressed and walked to Wolf in the Fog for cocktails before dinner at Kuma. Wolf in the Fog always has the best drinks and I love to go there just for a drink. The food is also amazing but I prefer to eat at Kuma, who can say no to ramen? It was so good to catch up with Cass and Mike, friends that we wished lived so much closer to us, maybe one day! The following morning we woke up after an amazing and relaxing slumber. The hotel was so quiet and all you could hear was the wildlife of Tofino. Such a different feeling from living in the city. We decided we had to go back to Summit Bakery for more pastries before driving to Long Beach so Dave could get his surf in and I could walk my favourite beach. Next stop was Ucluelet to visit Zoe’s! It was so great to be back in our old home town and see everyone again. We’ve already planned our next visit, the end of this month! This time we will stay in Ukee though, which I am very excited for!
The entire weekend Dave and I were in Tofino all we kept saying was how relaxed we were. It’s such a different feeling up there, it’s hard to explain and maybe if you’ve never lived there you might not quite understand it. Our lives were simpler when we lived in Ucluelet and I really miss those days. But as we talked to our friends up there, we realized everyone is moving on and changing their life paths, just like us. I am so grateful we had the opportunity to live there when we did. I made some friendships I will never forget and I am so lucky I can go and visit my friends and the places I love whenever I want!
