My parents have owned the same house my whole life. It’s the perfect house, with a beautiful garden that sits on a back lane. The house is located in such a great neighbourhood in Victoria, we really did have the best childhood. There were kids everywhere and that’s how I became best friends with Caitlin and Steph. Steph lived 8 houses up the same road and had two younger sisters and my dad would look after all of us when we were young. One day when we were playing in the backyard a new little girl showed up, Caitlin was her name. We became fast friends and then best friends and were inseparable all through our childhood. We haven’t lived in the same city for a long time now, she now lives in Edmonton and I live in Victoria. However, we usually get to see each other once a year. This year we met at her family cabin on Quadra Island for the September long weekend and it was exactly what we needed.
Caitlin’s family has had the cabin since I was a little girl and every summer we would visit it. I both loved and hated going there, mainly because I was the least outdoorsy kid around. I hated the outhouse and ‘showering’ in the lake but we made such great memories up there. I loved having sleepovers with my best friend and swimming all day until we were so hungry we had to come in. We invited different friends every summer and then this summer I finally got to bring Dave. Dave loved it, he is the opposite of me, in the sense that he loves the outdoors. Caitlin’s husband Parker was there too and the four of us had such a great time. One day we had beautiful sunshine and the next we had rain but we didn’t care the least. We spent the mornings sleeping in, making delicious breakfasts before exploring the lake for the day. We went canoeing, for walks and played so many boardgames. There is little to no service on the lake and taking a break from our phones was such a welcome and needed break. I love writing my blog and posting photos and stories of what I’ve been up to, but it can also be very exhausting and draining. So I left my phone alone pretty much the entire time we were away and used our camera and my disposable to capture the weekends events.
With dirty hair and sunburnt bodies we headed home the morning of Labour Day. Even though we only spent 2 days together it felt like Caitlin and I had the chance to properly catch up. We can never find the time to Skype as much as we want to and you can never get everything into an hour long conversation. I’m so glad we were able to make it to Quadra Island this year, making new memories to add to our old ones.
I lived in this new Camp Brand Goods sweatshirt for the whole weekend. Dave recently bought it for me as a gift and I absolutely adore it. On the warmer day I wore it with my favourite denim shorts from Topshop (my only shorts because shorts are impossible to buy!) However, on the rainy day I wore it with cozy leggings and a plaid top underneath. Really the perfect cabin outfit. I didn’t wear any makeup all weekend and I “washed” my hair in the lake and it felt so good to just be ‘au naturel.’ I have been wearing this sweatshirt on repeat since Dave gave it to me. My favourite way to wear it is with lose fitting jeans, white sneakers and a bomber layered over top. The epitome of casual but still looks cute and fashionable in my eyes. I love all of Camp Brand Goods sweatshirts and Dave loves their tees and I can definitely see myself purchasing from their brand again.
