My family owns an independent pharmacy in Sidney, BC. I have been working there on and off since I was 14, so over 16 years now. I often move away and get a new job then when I move back I come back to it. It's a great thing to have to come back to because it isn't easy getting a job here in Victoria, especially one that pays well. My grandfather opened it almost 60 years ago and when he passed away my grandmother took it over. Now her, my mum and aunt all own it together. It is small but does very well and has some of the most loyal customers you will ever come upon. Even though there is always competition with the larger chains of pharmacies in Sidney and throughout Victoria, our little Sidney Pharmacy is still going strong. That's one of the many reasons why I like to support local and small businesses whenever I can.
While my sister was visiting home for the summer we tried to go to all our favourite places in Victoria, a little tourist in your own town sort of deal. I took a random Tuesday off so we could spend the whole day together and we had a great day! We headed downtown for lunch at Ruth & Dean, one of my favourite places in Victoria. The first time I had heard of it is when my sister got married and had them make her wedding cake. We had to taste their baked goods out that summer, to be sure she went with a good place and it did not disappoint. For lunch we sat down in the small cafe and enjoyed a salad and chicken pot pie, both were equally delicious! We decided not to get any baked goods, which was hard to do but lunch was too filling. Next stop was a hair cut at Heartwood & Co, a hair and esthetics studio run by two sisters from Victoria. It is a beautiful space and I know I will definitely be going back for future cuts and colours, I already have my next appointment booked! Finally we headed to Fan Tan alley for a popsicle from Kid Sister. The first time I tried Kid Sister was the year they opened and they had a tiny store front right off of Pandora. Now they have expanded and often have a line up outside their shop. They have a delicious selections of both popsicles and ice cream and if you haven't noticed I love both. We had such a great afternoon and supported so many lovely small businesses here in Victoria, which is important to me!
It was a hot one, perfect for popsicles if you ask me! I wore one of my favourite t-shirts, my Rolling Stones tee from American Eagle. It looks like an old vintage tee that could have been my parents, that's why I love it. It looks great however you wear it and I decided to wear it with my black denim skirt from Topshop with star studs all over it. I bought it in Thailand at the Topshop at Bangkok that I made Dave find with me. I have to go to Topshop whenever I have the chance, it's a problem, I know! Worn with my favourite sneakers and it's the perfect look for a day eating and visiting my favourite spots. I have been carrying around my Market Canvas Leather Bucket Bag everywhere with me because it is the perfect bag for everyday. It fits so much but still looks so chic and it feels good to have an original piece and to support a local designer from Tofino. But the outfit was definitely finished off with my delicious Key Lime Pie popsicle from Kid Sister, the perfect accessory to any look!
