As I write this, it's my last weekend in this small town and I'm both happy and sad to be going back to Victoria. I can't wait for those hot summer Victoria nights where you can sit on a patio in a dress. I also can't wait to share my favourite places in Victoria with all of you. We have lots of exciting plans for the rest of summer and I'm really looking forward to having weekends off with Dave again. Being able to go to Vancouver for a weekend whenever we want will be so great, I miss that city a lot. However, although there are so many exciting things to look forward to I am also sad about leaving this town behind. I fully intend to make visits back every year to see my friends and hopefully they'll come down to visit us in Victoria once and awhile.
I'll miss mine and Dave's quiet but wonderful life we had here. How he tried to no avail to get me to surf...sorry I was just not made for it! How every weekend I would take him to Zoe's Bakery & Cafe to have coffee and a treat no matter what we had planned. I will also miss walking after dinner on those rarely sunny evenings and not seeing anyone else on the trail. For some weird reason I will miss training in such a hilly town even though I hated it at times. I will definitely miss my favourite shops in Tofino too, like Caravan Beach Shop and Merge. I loved visiting Jen at Caravan and always finding such unique gifts for friends and family. Visiting Merge was like going to a curated boutique that was so beautiful you never wanted to leave. And the food, who can forget about the delicious restaurants that dot both Tofino and Ucluelet. I have fallen in love with ramen because of Kuma. It was wonderful having delicious and proper Italian pizza at Basic Goodness Pizzeria. Of course there are so many more to name, like the unique and delicious Wolf in the Fog which were known for their delicious appetizers and drinks. And finally Sobo for their ever changing menu that included so many drool worthy local foods.
I can't really believe our time in this tiny town has come to an end. It only feels like we moved here a few months ago but we have been here for a year and a half. Funny when you're a kid and time goes so slowly and adults always tell you when you grow up time will fly by. Well they were right and this past year and a half is evidence of that. Of course it was a hard move initially and it had its ups and downs. It always is hard moving to a new place without knowing people. However, I have made some friends I will never forget and really miss seeing around. I find it is so much harder making friends as an adult and when you do those friendships can sometimes be so much stronger than ones you made as a kid. Funny how that is. As I pack away all our stuff I have found this past week to be quite reflective and I'm glad for it because I rarely sit alone with my thoughts, something I am working on.
In this post I am wearing my all time favourite dress for this summer. I picked this midi floral dress up in Topshop in London when I was there in June. When I saw it I immediately knew I wanted it. The floral print is so cute and the ruffle along the top with the buttons that go all the way down the dress. Everything about it is perfect to me. I have been leaning more and more towards the midi length as I find shorter dresses are just not really me anymore. I still have some mini dresses but if they are too short and I find myself pulling them down I just don't feel comfortable. I am still on the hunt for the perfect wrap midi dress, but for now this one is my dream dress. I've already worn it to a summer wedding with block heels and a denim jacket draped over my shoulders. But I can easily see myself throwing a sweater over top on a chilly evening or wearing it again with sneakers like I did here. Such a versatile piece, easily dressed up or down.
I guess you could say this is a sort of goodbye post to the town I have called home for the past year and a half. Maybe not necessarily goodbye but see you later because I know I'll be back, maybe not to live and settle down but to visit and continue exploring.
