After last year's crazy summer of visitors, I've decided to make a to-do list for this summer. That way Dave and I can hopefully explore the area we live in a bit more. Summer is coming up quicker than I can believe and I'll be away for half of May and the beginning of June then we will be in full summer mode! What's on your to-do list this summer?
1. Eat popsicles at Kid Sister, Victoria:
I have only been to Kid Sister once and that was when they had their small shop close to Royal Athletic Park. Since then they have moved to Fan Tan Alley and are on everyone's radar. I want to take Dave to try all their delicious treats, especially on a hot summers day.
2. Hike Mt. Ozzard (again):
Last April when we first moved to Ucluelet Dave and I did this hike. We did not realize just how high it was and I was starving by the time we got to the top. Now that we realize and can be a little better prepared I definitely want to get out and do this hike with friends this summer!
3. Watch some live music (hopefully outdoors):
Last year we went to Otalith and had a blast. Sadly this summer that music festival is cancelled but I have my eyes set on Skookum Festival in Vancouver. The line up is unbelievable, however, I really would be happy just to see Florence & The Machine play at an outdoor venue.
4. Get out in the Emerald Turtle (Dave's canoe):
Last summer we only made it out on the canoe once with our friends from Toronto. I definitely want to get back out on the lake this summer. Dave is currently working on fixing it up and is even painting it green to match its name.
5. Bake something I have never made before:
I have never made macarons before so my goal this summer is to try it! I have been on a serious baking kick lately, testing out different recipes and flavours so my next thing to try are making these french desserts.
6. Spend a weekend in Vancouver with no plans:
Dave and I often find ourselves in Vancouver, however, we are always running around like crazy while we are there. I would love to go over for a full weekend with no plans before hand. That way we can explore different spots, delicious restaurants and just take in the city.
7. Do more outdoor workouts:
I love how the days get longer in the summer and workouts seem that much easier to achieve. Last summer Kara from Body By Kara held outdoor workouts at Big Beach which is just down the road from our place. I loved the different styles of workouts and how fun it was to just be outdoors. I hope to do at least one a week this summer with her.
8. Visit Salt Spring Island:
I haven't been back to Salt Spring in over 2 years. I spent so much of my childhood there that it has a really important spot in my heart. I hope I can get to the island even for a day this summer.
9. Try and surf again:
This one is for Dave! I do not surf well, at all. However, for Dave I am willing to learn and put more time into it. Hopefully I will get better one day and be less scared, but we will see how it goes.
10. Have one weekend a month to ourselves:
Last summer was a little too busy with visitors. I loved it but Dave and I found it left us quite exhausted and we didn't get to see much of our new hometowns. So we have made a pact this year that this summer will be different so we can spend our weekends hiking or at the lake when the weather gets nice and hot!
