After listening to the Forever35 podcast religiously I have been thinking more and more about self-care, especially when it comes to my skin. When I was in my late teens and early 20's I was lucky enough to have pretty clear skin and I would just wash my face once a day and moisturize it with whatever drugstore brand. This year I turned 30 and listening to the podcast has made me realize that I have to look after my face if I want to continue looking young and healthy throughout my 30's and into my 40's. I thought I would share with you my skincare routine that I follow now but also what I am still looking for to balance it all out.
In the morning I cleanse my face with either a foam cleanser or a face scrub, depending on the day. The foam cleanser is a Tea Tree Oil & Witch Hazel one from Boots (a pharmacy in London.) I found it in Thailand and was so excited that I had to buy it. I used to always buy this cleanser when I lived there. My facial scrub is an Apricot Scrub + Mask by St. Ive's. After I wash my face I follow that with my favourite moisturizer, VitaZing from Origins with SPF 15. This moisturizer is a dream and I suggest to everyone to try it out. As you apply it to your skin, it changes colour to match your skin tone and evens out all your redness or spots. I use it instead of a foundation or concealer and I love that because I hate applying too much to my skin. I follow that with my makeup for the day.
At night or in the early evening, depending on my day, I start by taking my makeup off. This happens earlier in the day if I have worked out because I hate leaving makeup on after sweating. I use a cream makeup remover by Avon and remove my makeup with a cotton pad. I follow this with my foam cleanser from Boots to wash any extra makeup off. Then I use a Rosewater Toner from Burt's Bees and a cotton pad. This is essential for me because it gets any last makeup or grime from the day off. I will often follow that by using my Mario Badescu Facial Spray, which is also in Rosewater. My friend bought this for me last Christmas and I love it, it just makes you feel fresh and clean, while also moisturizing. My final step is a heavy night cream. I recently got this from Avon (my mum uses it every night,) and I love it. For awhile I was just using a light moisturizer for bed, but this winter my skin was drying out so much from being surrounded by heaters all day at work. This night cream has made such a difference and I feel like my face is still so soft when I wake up the next morning.
My treat once a week is using a face mask. I love sheet masks and I had loads given to me over the holidays so I had a stack that lasted a few months. Since I ran out I have been searching for a face mask that would produce less garbage so I bought Glossier's Moisturizing Moon Mask and love it. What are your favourite skincare products?
