While visiting Portland for my birthday I had to visit the Free People store. After explaining to Dave why it was so important we make it a stop on our weekend away, he let me run wild in the store (which I practically did.) The last time I was in a Free People store was 5 years ago in Seattle with my mum and we both fell in love with it. I bought a beautiful red lace dress that I still have and I still wear to weddings and I still love it as much as I did when I bought it that day. However, this trip to Free People was for a specific reason, I wanted their overalls after drooling over them online for many months. I was in luck, they had a few colours left and they were 50% off, so really it was meant to be. I can't wait to share them with you on next weeks fashion post but let's stop there. Because after I decided on the overalls and Dave approved I did one last lap of the store (never a good idea.) I fell in love all over again with this Baker Boy hat.
I have been following this trend for some time now, a few of my friends picked up on it but not many and I just wasn't sure if it was going to be "too trendy," for me. However, after trying it on I fell even more in love with it and had to have it. Even Dave approved of it and let's just say he is not a fan of all my more fashionable pieces. I bought it with the overalls and a Pink Floyd tee (which you'll be seeing soon too because it is so cute.) So in the end my shopping trip got a little out of hand but it was my birthday weekend so I justified it.
The next day I had to wear it when we went around exploring Portland more. I paired it with an oversized cardigan from Topshop that is perfect for winter layering, a denim shirt from River Island, my favourite dark frayed jeans from Topshop and my burgundy leather Chelsea booties from Topshop. I love that a cute outfit was instantly brought up to a new level of stylish because of this hat. I am already planning so many outfits with it from midi dresses to shorts and tees for summer. This style of hat seems to be sticking around for awhile and I think we will still be seeing it into next winter too.
