Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, hands down. I would eat breakfast items every meal if I could, but let's be honest I would never eat enough fruit and vegetables if that was the case. So you can only imagine how much I love brunch. A few weekends ago when I was visiting Victoria my mum invited me out to join her and the ladies for a friend's birthday brunch. I couldn't say no to brunch. I suggested The Ruby because it is one of my favourite spots in Victoria. Even though it was far past brunch time (1pm) I still went with one of my favourites, the Ruby Oatmeal. It came with candied seasonal berries, which were strawberries and it really was delicious. My mum went for the lunch menu and chose the Ruby Chicken Taco Salad. She said it was amazing and couldn't finish her plate. It was piled high with spiced pulled chicken, mixed greens, black beans, roasted corn, pico de gallo, shredded cheddar, avocado, tortilla chips and their creamy house dressing. Debbie had a birthday mimosa and the Chorizo Benny (she can never say no to a benny.) It came with two poached eggs, house ground chorizo, sauteed peppers, sweet onion and topped with classic hollandaise. My godmother Ann went for the Duck Confit Hash, which is a house favourite. Ruby is known for their duck and chicken dishes and they do not disappoint. This one comes with pulled duck confit, 2 poached eggs, Red Barn bacon (the best in Victoria,) pickled onion and herb garnish, gastrique. We all left brunch happy and very full and had fun walking around their parking lot and the Hotel Zed. The perfect place for some cute photos ops! Next time you are in Victoria you have got to try The Ruby, it has a brunch dish everyone will like and the atmosphere of the restaurant is fun and relaxed.
