On The Road: Tofino Edition

March 06, 2017 by Jennifer Costanzo

I've got some very exciting news, I will be moving up to Tofino/Ucluelet in a couple weeks to join Dave and had a great time exploring it as a tourist for the last time. We are lucky enough to be staying at the Pacific Sands Resort on Cox Bay in a gorgeous Beach House. From our windows you can see the crashing waves, the brave surfers and the dogs running up and down the beach. This part of the island is truly magical. While I was there I got to visit some of my favourite restaurants and shops. Here's my must do list for anyone thinking of going to Tofino anytime soon, or even to come up and visit us!

As Dave had a meeting as soon as we arrived in Tofino, I went and sat in my favourite coffee shop in Tofino, Rhino Coffee House. There I was able to catch up on some blog posts, emails and people watch, over a delicious salad and tea. After a few hours of working, I decided to enjoy the sunshine and walk around downtown Tofino. I went to some of my favourite shops, Habit Clothing & Apparel and Storm The Tofino Surf Shop. Finally I ended up sitting and reading and enjoying the sun until Dave picked me up to go to the hotel.

My second day in Tofino was met with over 50mm of rain and I decided to take advantage of the empty house by working out, writing and reading. It was nice and relaxing, but by the time Dave got home I was ready for our date night for Valentine's Day at Wolf In The Fog. Dave and I had both been to this restaurant once before and we were excited to try it out again. This time we opted for a few different appetizers to enjoy with our drinks, instead of getting a main. Our favourite appetizer was the Potato Crusted Oyster with apple slaw on the side. It was a wonderful dining experience with a romantic ambience, perfect for our second Valentine's together.

My final day was met once again by serious rains and wind and I stayed inside for most of the day. When you don't have rain pants there isn't much point of going out in that kind of weather, which I quickly learned later that day when Dave and I went for a walk and my legs were soaked afterwards. However, that being said, it was fun to get out in the storm and watch the massive waves rolling over one another. For our last dinner together we went to Kuma Tofino, which had been recommended to us. Kuma did not disappoint and the small restaurant had a wonderful and relaxing atmosphere about it. Dave and I shared the Spicy Edamame, followed by ramen. I chose the House Ramen and Dave had the Winter Ramen, which I had to try too, and I loved both. Next time you are in Tofino, definitely go to Kuma and warm up with a fresh bowl of noodle soup.
