Our first traveling experience in Thailand was at a rather beautiful and lush hotel on Koh Chang island. My sister was truly amazing and booked all our hotels except our last one and almost every night had a place in mind for dinner. It was like having our own travel planner right there on the holiday with us. I can't thank her enough because every single place we stayed was absolutely amazing, this one has to be number 1 though. She did warn us saying we were staying in the nicest at the beginning and she couldn't have been more right.
The location was great as it was right on a main drag so we had lots of restaurants, bars, spas and shopping pretty much at our doorstep. However, once you entered the resort it felt so secluded and far from the craziness of that road. We each had our own rooms which felt like our own mini villa. Breakfast was included so every morning we would wake up after a delightfully, peaceful snooze and saunter down to the breakfast room. The breakfast spread was delicious and always got us started on the right foot for our day. We often spent the morning exploring, coming back to the resort in the afternoon to lounge and lounge we did. There were two swimming pools on site, one adult and one kid friendly. We chose the adult to not be disturbed by children (sorry kids!) It was perfect, we would lay there soaking in the sun, reading our books, drinking tropical drinks and sometimes dipping into the pool (which was colder than I would have thought.)
Every evening after we got ready we would head to the beach where we witnessed some of the most glorious sunsets I have ever seen and I live in Ucluelet. There was a restaurant that looked over the beach so a few times we decided to have a pre-dinner drink to soak in the view. Overall our stay at Gaja Puri was magical and I would highly recommend anyone to stay there. If you are traveling in style (ie not in hostels) and can afford to splurge a bit, then splurge on this resort. Koh Chang island was a little island of paradise and I would say it is a must when you're visiting Thailand. Check out my post next week to see all of our adventures on the island!
