Last weekend was simply put amazing. I wanted to get back to Ucluelet and Tofino before summer since it can get quite crazy up there and I missed our old home. When we were living in Ucluelet the first person I met was Kara Stevens of Body by Kara. You would have seen her on my blog previously as I interviewed her and spoke about how much of an impact she had on my time in the little town of Ukee. Kara is such a welcoming person and although I can be quite shy when I meet people at first, she welcomed me into her workout studio with open arms. I try to meet up with her whenever I’m back in Ucluelet and this past weekend she invited me up to stay at her newly built Aribnb, The Lighthouse Suites. We could not have asked for a better weekend, weather wise but also it was the perfect, relaxing weekend and it was all due to this beautiful space we stayed in!
We arrived late in the evening after work on Friday and missed the sunset but when we opened the door we were gladly greeted by a beautiful suite with everything you could possibly need! It was right on the ocean and I couldn’t wait to see the view when I woke up. All I wanted to do after the journey and long week was getting into bed and watch Netflix, and that’s exactly what we did. There was a little kitchenette with tea from a local shop in Ucluelet so we made ourselves a cuppa and relaxed before bed. The room was so quiet, I really don’t remember the last time I had that good of a sleep!
The next morning I woke up way before Dave did, something that tends to happen after my baking shifts. So I snuck out of bed to see the view and it did not disappoint! It was blue skies and blue sea for days! I couldn’t get over how beautiful it was. I crawled back into bed and put my headphones in while Dave continued to sleep. That morning we made ourselves coffee from the Nespresso machine in the room and Kara had even left a little carton of cream in the fridge for us. We went our separate ways, Dave to check the surf and I went to one of Kara’s classes at The Studio. It felt so good to get a morning workout in but also to be working out back at my favourite workout studio! The bathroom in our suite had everything you could need with a few extras under the sink. I appreciated the items I often forget while traveling and think that is such a great touch to an Airbnb you don’t usually get!
We ended up spending the day in Tofino catching up with old friends and visiting all our favourite spots. Dinner at Kuma, which is always delicious before heading back to Ucluelet. We managed to catch the sunset as we arrived home and the view, if possible, was even more breathtaking then when I woke up that morning. I have a hard time slowing down, even as I write this, I was beyond exhausted today, having had a terrible sleep last night. I was planning on taking a nap but never did. I remember when I lived in Ucluelet and how our lives were that much slower. The moment I looked out at the sunset I realized I really need to consciously take moments this summer for myself, get out for walks, watch the sunset and live in the moment instead of always looking forward to the next thing. It was good to be reminded of that on this weekend getaway.
The next morning I decided to take it easy. I didn’t really have any plans for Sunday and Dave wanted to check out the surf again. I was sitting at the breakfast nook, looking out at the foggy morning when I was going to get back into bed but decided I should do some yoga. Kara has included yoga mats in the suite, which is such a great touch. Since they were right in front of me, it forced me to stretch my body, something I really need to do more! I did a self led practice for about half an hour and it felt so good to move my body again. Once Dave got back we decided instead of driving to breakfast we would walk. Another great thing about this suite is it’s location! Not only because it’s waterfront, it’s also within walking distance to the town centre of Ucluelet. We walked to my favourite spot, Zoe’s Bakery and Cafe and had a delicious breakfast and picked up some bread to bring home. Then we walked to the Wild Pacific Trail, something we used to always do when we lived in Ucluelet.
Although we were only in Ucluelet for a short weekend getaway I was reminded of all the reasons I loved living there so much. I can’t believe it has almost been a year since we moved back to Victoria, time really is going by too quickly! I really miss Ucluelet but I am so happy I have friends to go back to visit, like Kara. Thank you for letting us stay at your gorgeous suite and I can’t recommend it enough! We will definitely be back to stay!
